The young Emmanuelle Devos soon dedicates herself to theatre. She takes drama class at the Cours Florent under the direction of Francis Huster who directs her in On a volé Charlie Spencer (1986). Close to the new generation of directors from the Fémis, she stars in Noémie Lvovsky’s or Arnaud Desplechin’s first movies. She will frequently work with the later as in My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument that wins her a nomination for the Best Promising Actress César Award in 1997.
In 2001, her performance in Read My Lips by Jacques Audiard is rewarded with the Best Actress César Award.
Even if she sometimes appears in comedies, she remains faithful to arthouse cinema and stars in The Adversary and La Moustache by Emmanuel Carrère, Kings and Queen by Arnaud Desplechin, The Beat That My Heart Skipped by Jacques Audiard and the recent Good Girl by Hélène Fillières.
In the same time, Emmanuelle Devos still performs on stage and can actually be seen in The Creditors by August Strindberg.
