Nathalie Baye, Mélanie Bernier, Jane Birkin, Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, Clotilde Courau, Emmanuelle Devos, Jérémie Elkaïm, Louis Garrel, Isabelle Huppert, Alexandra Lamy, Bulle Ogier, and Jean-François Stévenin will be present at the Locarno Film Festival - 2016.
Each summer, Locarno becomes the world capital for arthouse films. From August 3 to 13, 2016, 34 French productions and coproductions and 10 short films will be screened on the banks of Lago Maggiore.
During this event, the Swiss commune will welcome fifty French artists and producers, who will come to present their films to the film-loving public, always curious for new encounters.
Six French films will be screened in the Piazza Grande, able to seat 8000 spectators: Moka by Frédéric Mermoud, Ceasefire by Emmanuel Courcol, Into the Forest by Gilles Marchand, Heaven Will Wait by Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, Endless Poetry (Endless Poetry) by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Vincent et la fin du monde by Christophe Van Rompaey.
Two films are competing for the Golden Leopard: The Young One by Julien Samani and La Prunelle de mes yeux by Axelle Ropert.
Two other films are in Competition in the Cineasti del presente section: Daydreams by Caroline Deruas and Still Life by Maud Alpi.
Seven short films are competing in the Pardi di domani strand: Au loin, Baltimore by Lola Quivoron, Tree House by Simon Guélat, Cilalos by Camile Restrepo, Iceberg by Mathieu Z’Graggen, Manodopera by Loukianos Moshonas, Que vive l’empereur by Aude Léa Rapin, and Rhapsody by Constance Meyer.
Locarno pays tribute to Jane Birkin by taking advantage of her presence, in La femme et le TGV by Timo von Gunten, a Swiss short film competing in the Pardi di domani: Concorso nazionale. Screenings of Boxes by Jane Birkin and The Prodigal Daughter by Jacques Doillon will complete this homage.
Filmmaker, novelist, poet, and artist Alejandro Jodorowsky will receive a Pardo d’onore Swisscom during the 69th Locarno International Film Festival. As well as a selection of features chosen from his filmography and the award ceremony in the Piazza Grande, the Festival will propose a conversation with Alejandro Jodorowsky open to the public.
Comedian Kate Moran is a member of the International Competition jury, while director Antonin Peretjatko is a member of the Concorso Cineasti del presente jury.
UniFrance will of course be present at Locarno, alongside French directors, actors, producers, and international sales agents.
