Biography

Born in a family of artists, Daniel Auteuil settles in Paris and enters the Cours Florent. He starts his career on stage before making his first film L’Agression by Gérard Pirès in 1974.
After regular performances in successful comedies of the 80’, The Under-gifted (Claude Zidi 1980), Clara et les chics types (Jacques Monnet – 1982), For 200 Grand, You Get Nothing Now (Edouard Molinaro – 1982), he successfully opens his repertoire with Jean de Florette de Claude Berri en 1986.
From then on, Daniel Auteuil works with the most renowned directors, especially with Claude Sautet and André Téchiné who casts him in two of their films. Far from the light performances of his early career, Daniel Auteuil links up costume films and is successively Lacenaire by Francis Girod (1990), Henri IV (The Queen Margot by Patrice Chéreau – 1994), Sade by Benoit (2000) Jacquot or Lagardère (On Guard! by Philippe de Broca – 1997).
Amongst the French actors the most appreciated by the director and the audience, Daniel Auteuil mixes genres and appears in some of the great French success of the past few years: The Adversary (Nicole Garcia), The Closet (Francis Veber), 36 (Olivier Marchal), One Stays, the Other Leaves (Claude Berri).
In 2005, he has two films in competition in Cannes, To Paint or Make Love by the Larrieu Brothers and Hidden by Michael Haneke and et taking up with comedy he will star in L’Entente cordiale (Vincent de Brus) et The Valet (Francis Veber) in 2006.
