Actors, producers, distributors, festival directors, journalists, sales agents – all the professionals from the French movie industry have made Club Unifrance their meeting point.
Even European Culture Ministers came along to raise their glasses in honor of European films. As for press meetings, after the crew from "Lemming" greeted the media, as well as Cédric Klapisch, Michel Ocelot, and Sophie Marceau, it was over to the crew from "Douches froides" ("Cold Showers") to meet with journalists curious to discover the world of Anthony Cordier and his debut feature film (selected at the Directors' Fortnight). On Sunday, Club Unifrance opened its doors to the Mexican director Carlos Reygadas, whose second film, "Batalla en el cielo" ("Battle in Heaven"), was presented in the Official Selection. The same day, Brigitte Rouan, Carole Bouquet and Jean-Pierre Castaldi, heroes of "Travaux" (Directors' Fortnight), spent the day in the sunshine responding to questions from the French press.
The pace eased up a little on Monday, only to pick up again on Tuesday for the Official Selection. Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Jérémie Rénier and Déborah François received French and international press representatives just before taking the stage to present "L'Enfant" ("The Child"). Also on Tuesday, Avi Mograbi gave interviews to present his documentary "Nekam Achat Mishtey Eynay" ("Avenge But One of My Two Eyes"), presented in the Official Selection (Out of Competition). Cannes week draws to a close with "Peindre ou faire l'amour," with Sabine Azéma, Amira Casar (photo), Daniel Auteuil, Sergi Lopez, Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu dedicating two days to French and foreign journalists. This all adds up to a very positive press report. Cannes 2005 has come to an end … roll on Cannes 2006!
