Complete filmography
BiographyAlain Chabat was born in Oran, 24 November, 1958.
He started out by drawing comic strips, before he moved into broadcasting and could be heard over the airways on several radio stations: Radio Andorra, France Inter and RMC.
In 1984, Pierre Lescure ushered him into the Canal Plus television channel and gave him free reign on the weather report. Five months later, Chabat was hosting 4C+, a live, daily programme featuring games, music videos, sketches and guests. During the same period, he hosted a weekly programme, "Prochainement sur Canal Plus" alongside Daniel Toscan du Plantier, and a media slot in "Zénith," presented by Michel Denisot.
In 1986, he and his partners Bruno Carette, Chantal Lauby and Dominique Farrugia, created the crazy space TV series "Objectif Nul" (awarded the 7 d'or for Best Television Series). Les Nuls (the Zeros) were born. They created Philippe Gildas' program, "Nulle part ailleurs," in 1987, employing all their skills to concoct fake news reports, commercials and sketches. In 1988, they developed "TVN 595" (awarded the 7 d'or for Best Special Program) and "La Nuit la plus Nuls," then in 1989, "ABCD Nuls."
Despite Bruno Carette's death on 8 December, 1989, the Nuls' adventures continued with "Histoire(s) de la télévision," a daily chronicle and, from September 1990 to March 1992, "Les Nuls, the Show," a live, public show every Saturday at 10.00 pm.
9 March, 1994 saw the release of their first feature film "Fear City: A Family-Style Comedy," directed by Alain Berberian, which was to become the success of the year, clocking up audiences of 2 and half million.
From October 1994 to June 1995, the Nuls hosted a daily show on the Europe 1 channel, "Le Zouzouk," from 11.00 am until 12.30 pm.
In 1995, Chabat played the part of Laurent in Josiane Balasko's film, "French Twist." That same year, he directed several notable commercials for Orangina. In 1996, he was cast in "Delphine 1 - Yvan 0," his colleague Dominique Farrugia's film. Chabat's own first feature film, "Didier," in which he plays the lead role alongside Jean-Pierre Bacri, was released in 1997. The adventures of Didier, a dog who's trapped in a man's body, attracted audiences of 3 million in France!
While pursuing his acting career ("Le Cousin" by Alain Corneau, "Political Bust" by Dominique Farrugia, "La Débandade" by Claude Berri, "Le Goût des autres" by Agnès Jaoui), Chabat also made two exclusive videos: "Bricol'girls," home improvement in the company of three gorgeous women, and "Authentiques, Un an avec NTM," a documentary about the leading rap group.
He'll soon take over from Claude Zidi, directing "Au service de Cléopâtre," the second part of the movie adventures of Asterix and Obelix.
