In December, two comedies were released in China, while an action film launched in Colombia.

Boosted by the festive season, the results for December progressed by 35% compared to the previous month and 7 titles crossed the 100,000 admissions mark in international theaters (as against 5 in November).
For the very first time, Christmas & Co. entered the monthly ratings, even taking the lead. While out in France, the comedy also released in theaters in several foreign countries, mainly European, and featured in the Top 5 listings of several local box offices in its opening week. The latest film by Alain Chabat did especially well in Poland, where, on release since 4 weeks on a maximum of 158 screens, it attracted 171,000 spectators (€580,000 in box office revenues), being the best result abroad to date. It is also the 3rd best release of the year for a French film in Poland, following on the heels of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (Kino Swiat – 162,000 admissions, 420,000 total admissions) and Leap (Monolith Films – 126,000 admissions, 508,000 total admissions). In Belgium, after a weak start (around 18,000 spectators), the Christmas period boosted the career of Christmas & Co. and the box office revenues progressed until reaching €561,500 (78,000 admissions). That said, other results did not meet expectations. In China, the comedy appealed to a total of 151,000 spectators after 10 days on release (€610,000 in box office revenues), a disappointing score given the wide scale release and huge promotional campaign organized in the country. In neighboring Russia, the film launched with 52,000 admissions for 560 prints, a figure which dropped by 70% during the second week, for a total admissions figure for the month of 67,500 (€235,000 in box office revenues).
Even though it dropped out of 1st place, Overdrive featured for the 5th time in the monthly Top 3 ratings and has now drawn a total of 1.93 million spectators to international theaters. A large part of the total monthly score was recorded in Colombia, where the thriller brought together 58,000 spectators in 117 theaters (63,000 in total and €128,500 in box office revenues) and hence registered as the 2nd best launch of the year for a French film in this country after Valérian (125,000 admissions, with a total of 226,000). In Mexico, Overdrive added 64,000 admissions to its tally, allowing it to reach a total of 286,000, the film's best performance outside France.
Due to its Chinese release alone, R.A.I.D. Special Unit reappeared in the monthly ratings. The film, the 2nd biggest success in 2017 in Belgium (252,000 spectators – €1.76 million in box office revenues), opened the French Film Panorama in China in Beijing last April, which Dany Boon and Alice Pol attended for the film's preview. After 10 days in theaters, the comedy had tallied 143,000 admissions and €546,500 in income. Although China has again become the leading territory in terms of admissions generated by French films, its market, which increasingly attracts foreign productions due to the possibility it provides of generating exceptional results, once again proved difficult to break into.
Elsewhere, Madame attracted 88,500 German spectators, Happy End almost generated as many admissions in Italy (49,000) as in the United Kingdom (45,500), Bright Sunshine In got off to a very good start in Sweden (8,500 admissions), Fifty Springtimes and The Insult released in Italy (respectively 54,000 and 83,500 spectators), while Just to Be Sure crossed the AUD1,000,000 in box office revenues mark in Australia (57,500 spectators) !
