Biography

Comedy enthusiast, Jean-Paul Rouve takes drama classes at the National Drama Centre of Nord-Pas-De-Calais. He then joins in the Cours Florent, under the direction of Isabelle Nanty and meets five of his future accomplices in the theatre group Les Robins de Bois in 1989. They create all together a stage comedy that wins a great success Robin des Bois roughly from Alexandre Dumas. Discovered by Dominique Farrugia, they lead on the TV channel Comedie! La Grosse Emission, before doing sketches in Nulle Part Ailleurs, key show of Canal+. Jean-Paul Rouve makes a noticeable first appearance on screen in Karnaval (1999), sharp film shoot in his native Dunkerque.
Jean-Paul Rouve soon turns toward comedy with Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra by Alain Chabat, Tanguy by Etienne Chatiliez or Bullit & Riper by Eric Lartigau, starring Kad Merad and Olivier Barroux both came from TV. Nevertheless, Jean-Paul Rouve gets public recognition thanks to Gérard Jugnot’s Monsieur Batignole that wins him the Best Promising Actor Cesar Award in 2003. More and more solicited, he stars in two of 2004 big successes: as Michel Polnareff’s double in Podium; as a postman in A Very Long Engagement. The same years he meets again with the rest of the Robin des Bois’ team in RRRrrr!!! by Alain Chabat and seduces the audience in the surprising role of a rancorous seducer in An Innocent Little Game. More recently, Jean-Paul Rouve stars in Just Friends opposing Gérard Depardieu before embodied two fatherly characters: a farmer welcoming a turbulent child in A Year in My Life then Edith Piaf’s father in La Môme.
