BiographyClaire Simon began her career as an assistant editor, then became an editor in her own right. In 1988, she stepped behind the camera to make her first short fiction film, "La Police" (Grand Prix for Best Short Film, Canal + Prize at the Belfort Film Festival, CICAE Prize and Audience Award at the Dunkirk Film Festival, Commendation at the Montreal Womens' Film Festival), followed by "Scènes de ménage" (1991), starring Miou Miou. As a documentary filmmaker, she made two short films, "Les Patients" in 1989 (winner of the "Mission du Patrimoine" Prize at the Cinéma du Réel Documentary Festival in 1990) and "Récréations" (selected for official competition at the Cinéma du Réel Festival in 1993), released in theaters in 1998. "Coute que coute," a 100-minute award-winning documentary(Documentary Grand Prix at Potsdam, Grand Prix at Mulhouse, 2nd Prize for a Documentary at Rotterdam, among others), was released in theaters in 1996. Simon directed her first fiction feature, "A Foreign Body," in 1997. The film stars Catherine Mendez and Emmanuel Clarke, and was presented in the "Cinéma en France" section at Cannes and won the Society of Screen Writers and Composers (SACD) Grand Prix for Best Screenplay in the Franco-American section at Avignon. She completed "Ca c'est vraiment toi" in 2000, which she shot with students from the National Theater School in Strasbourg.
