Biography

Claude Miller worked with François Truffaut for many years. He began his own directing career with a memorable short, "Camille ou la comédie catastrophique." Apart from incidental details and a set of themes that share common ground with Truffaut's world, Claude Miller’s work revolves around one major fixation: secrecy. His debut feature film, "The Best Way to Walk," set the tone for his future work. After a string of films about girlhood ("An Impudent Girl," "Charlotte and Lulu," "The Accompanist," "The Little Thief" and “The Smile”), he directed "Class Trip," a film about the world of children, their worries, dreams and dreads when confronted with frightening reality. It shared the Jury Prize at the 1998 Cannes International Film Festival with Danish director Thomas Vinterberg's "The Celebration." His latest film, "La chambre des magiciennes," was presented in official competition at the 2000 Berlin Film Festival.
