Biography

Jacques Nolot started out as a playwright and theater actor before switching to the world of film, where he has acted in movies by, among others, Paul Vecchiali (“Rose la Rose, fille publique” in 1986 and “Le Café des Jules” in 1988), André Téchiné (“Hôtel des Amériques” in 1981, “Rendez-vous” in 1985, “Scene of the Crime” in 1986, “Les Innocents” in 1987, “My Favorite Season” in 1992 and “The Wild Reeds” in 1993), Jacques Demy (“Trois places pour le 26” in 1988), Claire Denis (“Nénette and Boni” in 1996) and Danièle Dubroux (“Border Line” in 1992, “Diary of a Seducer” in 1996). He scripted Paul Vecchiali’s “Le Café des Jules”, Claire Denis’ “La Robe à cerceaux” and the André Téchiné movies “La Matiouëtte” and “I Don’t Kiss”. In 1986 he directed a short film which was selected for several festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand. “The Hinterland” is his first full-length feature.
