The Lumiere Awards are to the French movie industry's Cesar Awards what the Golden Globes are to the Oscars: prizes awarded by international journalists based in France to the most outstanding French films of the previous year. This year, the awards ceremony was held on February 8, with Mustang by Deniz Gamze Ergüven taking top honors.
Organized by the Lumiere Academy, which was founded in 1995 by the French producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier and the American journalist Edward Behr, the Lumiere Awards honor excellence in French filmmaking each year.
The Lumiere Academy aims to highlight the strong interest shown by France-based foreign journalists in French films.
Mustang stood out in this year's awards list with 3 awards to its credit: Best Film, Female "Revelation" Prize, and the Heike Hurst Prize for Best First Feature Film.
