Biography

Barbet Shroeder was born in Teheran. He was a film critic for “Cahiers du Cinéma” and “L’Air de Paris.”
After working as Jean-Luc Godard’s assistant on “The Soldiers,” he directed two short films.
In 1963, he set up the production company Les Films du Losange, going on to produce several films for Eric Rohmer, including “The Baker of Monceau,” in which he played the lead part. He directed his first feature film “More” in 1969.
Many films followed, including “Barfly” (1987), inspired by the life of author Charles Bukowski, and “Reversal of Fortune,” which received an Oscar nomination.
“Our Lady of the Assassins,” his eleventh feature, was released 19 September, 2000.
