A Prophet

A Feature film by Jacques Audiard

Produced by Why Not Productions, Chic Films, Page 114

Release in France : 26/08/2009

    Synopsis

Sentenced to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena doesn't know how to read or write. When he arrives in the prison, alone in the world, he seems younger and more fragile than the other inmates. He's 18 years old.

From the outset, he falls under the thumb of a group of Corsican prisoners, which imposes its law in the prison. The young man quickly learns the ropes. Carrying out "missions", he toughens up and earns the Corsicans' trust.

But, Malik, putting his freshly gained knowledge to work, starts discreetly developing his own network.
