From December 2 through 6, Unifrance and the French Embassy in India are organizing the 2009 French Film Meetings in India, to be held in Mumbai.
The following films will be presented to Indian audiences: Les Femmes de l'ombre (Female Agents) in the presence of the film’s director Jean-Paul Salomé and lead actress Déborah François (distributed by Viswaas Films);
Mutants in the presence of director David Morley and lead actress Hélène de Fougerolles (distributed by Viswaas Films);
Paris in the presence of director Cédric Klapisch;
Partir (Leaving) in the presence of director Catherine Corsini;
Le Premier Jour du reste de ta vie (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life) in the presence of director Rémi Bezançon and actress Déborah François;
Les Regrets (Regrets) in the presence of director Cédric Kahn;
Un Prophète (A Prophet) by Jacques Audiard, in the presence of Tahar Rahim (distributed by Viswaas Films);
and Vertige (High Lane) in the presence of director Abel Ferry and Fanny Valette (distributed by Star).
Jean-Luc Godard’s classic film Pierrot le fou will also be presented during the event, with a screening of a print newly restored by the Cinémathèque Française.
All the French artists present at the festival will meet with Indian media representatives. Cédric Klapisch and Rémi Bezançon have been invited by the Whistling Woods Film School to meet with students as part of the On Set with French Cinema program. The complete French delegation will visit the Bollywood film studios.
Professional meetings with producers and interviews with local distributors and exhibitors will help develop a better understanding of the Indian theatrical market, with the aim of boosting French cinema’s presence on Indian movie screens.
