The final voting for the 2016 Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film will close on February 12. Unifrance would like to wish the best of luck to Mustang, the film by Deniz Gamze Ergüven that is representing France in this prestigious category, as well as to its producer Charles Gillibert (CG Cinéma), its French sales agent and co-producer Kinology, and its American distributor Cohen Media Group for this most recent step in the path toward international recognition for the film.
The identity of voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is a well-kept secret, notably for the Best Foreign-Language Film category. Members must make their choice from between five films, including Mustang. This selection comes six years after the inclusion of A Prophet by Jacques Audiard, which was the last French film to have reached the final voting stage in this category.
France supports the film by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, which has created a sensation since its very first festival selection at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 2015. Since then, this debut film has traveled the world, accompanied by its director and young cast members.
