Many French films and artists feature among the list of nominees for the 82nd Oscars.
A Prophet by Jacques Audiard will represent France in the Best Foreign Film category. Once again, it is vying with The White Ribbon, which will represent Germany. Michael Haneke's feature has also been nominated for Best Cinematography, thanks to the work by Christian Berger. Fellow Frenchman Bruno Delbonnel is also in the running for this award for the American film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Catherine Leterrier has been nominated for her work on the costumes for Coco Before Chanel.
After two unsuccessful nominations (for The Queen and Benjamin Button), Alexandre Desplat is again on the Best Music (Original Score) list for Fantastic Mr Fox by Wes Andersen, while "Loin de Paname," the Paris 36 song written by Frank Thomas and Reinhardt Wagner will be competing for the Best Original Song Oscar.
Aldo Signoretti and Vittorio Sodano are in the running for Best Makeup, for the coproduction Il Divo by Paolo Sorrentino.
When it comes to animated film, Brendan and the Secret of Kells by Tomm Moore has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film. French Roast by Fabrice O. Joubert and Logorama by H5 are among the nominees for Best Animated Short Film.
The winners will be announced March 7 in Los Angeles.
