Biography

After making his mark as an editor, Jacques Doillon set about becoming a director in 1972 with "L'an 01," a film he co-directed with Alain Resnais and Jean Rouch. It was his second film that really showed the range of his talent. "Touched in the Head" (1974) is, indeed, a prototype of Doillon's pet subject: the observation of people in a state of crisis. This great actors' director has made the pain lurking behind closed doors and our difficulty to love or be loved his speciality. He often focuses on teenagers, notably in "Le Petit criminel" (1990) with Clotilde Courau and Gérald Thomassin (Cesar for Most Promising Young Actor), "Amoureuse," which brought together Charlotte Gainsbourg, Yvan Attal and Thomas Langman, or "Young Werther." In 1996, he shot a film about the little girl "Ponette." After "Too Much (Little) Love" (1998), he directed his twentieth feature "Petits frères." Doillon is currently shooting his new film "Un homme à la mer."
