Born in Nazareth in Palestine, Hiam Abbas lives in France since 1989. After studying photography, she trains herself at the Al-Hakawati theatre in Jerusalem where she starts her acting career in 1983 and then enters the Beit El Kharma children theatre of Haifa. In 1986, she has her first important role in Michel Khleifi’s Wedding in Galilee. Since then she has appeared in some twenty short and feature films among which Haifa by Rashid Masharawi in 1995, Christophe Ruggia’s The Kid from Chaaba in 1996, Raddem by Danièle Arbid in 1997, Living in Paradise by Bourlem Guerdjou in 1998, Ali Rabiaa et les autres by Ahmed Boulane, Red Satin by Raja Amari and Munich by Steven Spielberg in 2005. Hiam Abbas has also written and directed two short films: Le Pain (2001) and La Danse éternelle (2004).
