Included among the 928 new members invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), who are now eligible to vote for the Oscars, are 51 French professionals from a range of movie industry disciplines.
The 928 new invitations include 49% women, clearly in line with the goal of boosting female representation at the AMPAS, which already counts around 6,000 members.
This year's invitations were extended to movie industry professionals from 59 countries and are the result of research carried out in April and May this year by each of the Academy's 17 Branches. Each Branch's electing committee submitted a list to the Governors Board (composed of 54 members), who then cast their final vote.
