All the French films at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival

Nearly 40 French-produced or co-produced films—both short and feature-length—will be screened across all sections during the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), North America’s largest film festival and film market, which will take place in the Canadian city from September 10 to 20.

For its 51st edition, TIFF—a leading international film festival—will present a wide array of North American premieres of films first shown at the most recent Cannes Film Festival, including The Unknown, by Arthur Harari, All of a Sudden, by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, Minotaur, by Andreï Zviaguintsev, In Waves, by Phuong Mai Nguyen, Iron Boy, by Louis Clichy, Ben'Imana, by Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo. Or films that were more recently selected for Venice, notably Bunker, by Florian Zeller, which will be presented at a Gala screening, accompanied by its director and Penélope Cruz. Another prestigious Gala presentation will feature All About Corinne, in the presence of Marc Fitoussi and Isabelle Huppert. Meanwhile, several French films and co-productions will have their world premieres in Toronto, including Les Filles d'Abraham, by Hanaël El Yousfi (Discovery) and Tehran, Under the Skin, by Afsaneh Salari (TIFF Docs). Last but not least, the series Alice (which traces the career of Alice Guy, a pioneer of cinema), created by Claire Lemaréchal and Tim Loane, and directed by Virginie Verrier and Guillaume Lonergan, will represent France in the Primetime strand.

Unifrance at TIFF

Unifrance will be out in force at the Toronto Film Market with a booth at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre / North Building (booth D1).

Nine member companies of the organization will be there to showcase the latest French productions in their lineups to the many buyers in attendance:

As in previous years, Unifrance will host its traditional French Night at the Fifth Social Club on the evening of Saturday, September 12, in partnership with BNP Paribas. The event will bring together the teams behind the selected French films, as well as producers, exporters, distributors, and international industry professionals (by invitation only).

Unifrance will also host a dinner with French artists on September 14 to encourage networking with North American industry professionals (by invitation only).

Related events around French films at TIFF

On September 13, a masterclass will be held, organized by the Ambassade de France in Canada, with French producer Caroline de Jenlis and Canadian co-producer Marie-Claude Poulin, who will present the series Alice at the Alliance Française in Toronto, alongside the festival. A reception will follow the masterclass.

A tribute to Isabelle Huppert will take place on September 13 as well. She will receive the TIFF Tribute Performer Award from the festival.
