French animations are, once again, particularly well represented at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which will take place from June 13 through 18, 2022. Festival-goers will have the chance to discover the latest offerings from the French animation industry, in all its diversity, with 61 works representing France across the various festival sections.
21 French animated shorts (including coproductions) will be presented in the various festival categories, with 6 graduation films on show, as well as 8 TV series special programs, 10 commissioned productions, and 4 VR works.
As for feature films, 7 French productions (including coproductions) feature among the 10 films selected in the Official Competition, while 2 others are included in the Contrechamp Competition. Furthermore, 3 French films will be shown at special screening events.
In addition to the competitive selections (shown below in detail), the festival also includes presentations of French projects currently in development or in production stage (in the Works in Progress sidebar). These French projects, which have backing from at least one French producer, account for the majority of projects to be presented–9 out of the 15 projects selected to be shown. The MIFA pitch sessions show no lack of French projects either, with 3 feature film projects, 3 short film projects, 4 projects for TV series and special programs, and 5 projects for digital experiences to be presented.
"France in Shorts" Initiative
The AFCA, L'Agence du court métrage, AnimFrance, and the SPI, in collaboration with Unifrance and the MIFA, have joined forces to offer French short film production companies accreditation at the 2022 MIFA event at the special rate of €286 (all taxes included). This special rate is part of the "France in Shorts" initiative that aims to support and accompany short film production companies, particularly those who are venturing into the animated film sector, to assist them in developing their animation projects and to facilitate access to the marketplace. You will find the conditions for eligibility in the downloadable document attached to this article.
