The 28th edition of the French Film Festival in the Czech Republic, an event co-organized by the Institut Français in Prague and Unifrance, will offer an extensive program of 43 films screened during 134 sessions in Prague (at Kino 35 at the Institut Français in Prague, Kino Lucerna, Kino Světozor, and Edison Filmhub), from November 20 to 26, and also in several regions, with a series of screenings from November 20 to 24 in České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, and Ostrava, and from November 21 to 26 in Brno.
The Colours Of Time by Cédric Klapisch will launch the festivities at the Lucerna on Thursday, November 20, in the presence of Zinedine Soualem, one of the filmmaker's favorite actors.
Also invited by the festival are actor-director Pascal Elbé (Lucky Star) and filmmakers Stéphane Demoustier (The Great Arch), Camille Perton (Arenas), Grégoire Graesslin (Dammen), and Fiorella Basdereff (A Time to Cherish).
The Premieres, the festival's main section, will feature 14 films—most of which were presented at the last Cannes Film Festival—which will be released in Czech cinemas in the coming months.
In Prague, the festival will present six films competing for the Audience Award in the Czech Critics' Choice Competition section, and will also pay tribute to two recently deceased figures of French and Francophone cinema Émilie Dequenne and Alain Delon.
A special screening has been organized around Jean-Luc Godard's masterpiece Breathless, shown alongside Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague which recounts the making of the film.
The Films 2024–2025 strand will offer viewers a selection of French films recently released in Czech cinemas, confirming the diversity of contemporary French cinema, including 13 Days, 13 Nights - In the Hell of Kabul, Bolero, The Little Sister, and Lumière ! The Adventure Continues.
The traditional Short Film Evening, organized each year in collaboration with Unifrance, will present a selection of six short films in two screenings, on Tuesday, November 25 at 8 pm at Kino 35, and on Wednesday, November 26 at 8:30 pm at the Svetozor.
At the same time, the exhibition 130 Years of Gaumont Studio, featuring posters and audiovisual elements from a selection of cult films produced by the famous studio sporting a daisy logo, will be held at the Institut Français in Prague's Galerie 35 from November 6, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
