Synopsis
For three years, Viviane Amsalem has been asking her husband for a divorce, but her husband, Elisha, refuses to grant it. In Israel, only rabbis can declare a marriage and grant a divorce, but a marriage can only be dissolved if the husband agrees. Elisha's cold intransigence, Viviane's determination to fight for her freedom, and the ambiguous roles of the judges mark a trial where tragedy vies with absurdity, where everything is judged, except the initial request.
