This year, a large number of French productions and co-productions will be showcased once again at Rotterdam, a festival that explores experimental and avant-garde filmmaking, both in terms of form and content.
The Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR), founded in 1972, has stamped itself over the years as a leading platform for discovering new talent in filmmaking, reaching out to all cinematic forms.
Now a fixture on the European cultural calendar, the festival offers numerous programs, including two competitive sections, Bright Future and Voices. This year's Voices program will feature a world premiere of the event film This is Our Land by Lucas Belvaux (screened in the presence of the director).
The Criss-Cross program will present a retrospective of crime thrillers, including twelve French productions.
Around forty directors of the French productions and co-productions selected will be attending the festival, including Katell Quillévéré (Heal the Living), Bertrand Bonello (Nocturama), Daouda Coulibaly (Wùlu), Arnaud Des Pallières (Orphan), Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper), and Albert Serra (The Death of Louis XIV). The actors Nathan Willcocks (A Taste of Ink), Stéphane Debac (Le Serpent aux mille coupures), Garance Marillier (Raw), Émilie Dequenne (This is Our Land), and Lucie Lucas (Porto) will also be present.
