The 32nd edition of one of the most important festivals dedicated to French cinema in the world will take place from March 2 through April 24 across Australia and will allow Australian moviegoers to discover 37 recent French films, including Eiffel which opens the festival.
After a 2020 edition complicated by health restrictions due to Covid-19 (launched in March, then cancelled after a few days, and finally relaunched in July), the 2021 edition of the l'Alliance Française French Film Festival in Australia is back in its classic mode and set to roam throughout the country. Over two months, the 37 films presented will travel to nine Australian cities: after the opening in Sydney, where Eiffel will have its international premiere, the festival will continue on to Canberra, Hobart, Adelaide, Parramatta, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, and Byron Bay.
Divided into eleven strands, this edition was keen to honor strong female characters, including a horticulturalist in The Rose Maker (performed by Catherine Frot) a famous singer in Aline, the Voice of Love, an outlaw translator in Mama Weed, and a primary school teacher looking for love in My Donkey, My Lover & I. Other themes covered include love and cultural diversity.
Television host Catriona Rowntree will be the patron of the 2021 edition.
