After two editions complicated by the pandemic, and proposed in separate events or in hybrid mode, one of the most important international festivals dedicated to auteur and research cinema returned in January: the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) will take place from January 25 to February 5, in the presence of a sterling French delegation composed notably of many women directors.
A dozen French talents will accompany their films during the IFFR's 2023 edition: Sophie Letourneur (in the Big Screen Competition with her latest film Voyages en Italie), Léonor Serraille and Alice Diop (whose films will be presented in the Limelight strand), along with Albert Serra, Emmanuelle Nicot, Lucile Chaufour, Guillaume Nicloux, and Matthias Luthardt in Harbour. And the majority-French production Birdland, by Leila Kilani, will represent France in the festival's main competition the Tiger Awards.
Actors Ariane Labed, Philippe Katerine, Niels Schneider, and Benoît Magimel will also attend.
Lastly, Unifrance has partnered the Rotterdam Lab program by sending a delegation of three French producers (Romain Bent for Protest Studios, Coralie Dias for Inter Spinas Films, and Tristan Bergé for Kalpa Films). They will participate in workshops on film industry innovation, international co-production and post-production, sales, financing, and project development
