The 56th edition of Visions du Réel, one of the world's leading documentary festivals, takes place from April 4 to 13 in Nyon, Switzerland, and offers its usual rich and demanding program, with a focus on France this year.
Among the 156 films selected – feature, medium length, and short films – 32 French productions and co-productions will be highlighted, including 26 world premieres. The festival will also welcome Raoul Peck as guest of honor, with a retrospective of nine of his films and a masterclass.
Unifrance will be supporting this major event through a number of schemes, and in particular through its partnership with La Scam, enabling travel grants to be awarded to selected French filmmakers.
As part of the Industry Programme, which runs from April 6 to 9, Unifrance will also be accompanying a delegation of five producers of emerging documentaries as part of its strategy to support the transition from short to feature films (call for applications underway). These professionals will take part in a co-production lab, the “Switzerland Meets France” meetings, and co-production roundtables bringing together numerous international partners. The profiles of the selected producers will be announced at a later date.
Unifrance will also be offering networking opportunities for French and foreign professionals at a cocktail reception on Monday, April 7 in partnership with Ambassade de France en Suisse and EURODOC.
On April 9, Unifrance, in partnership wit TITRAFILM, will present its Unifrance Doc Award to one of the 11 French – or co-produced by France – projects in development, presented at the VdR-Pitching and VdR-Work in Progress.
With these initiatives, Unifrance confirms its commitment to promoting French documentaries internationally and supporting emerging talent.
