Once again this year, a host of French films will be showcased at the Montreal World Film Festival, which will be held from August 21 through September 1, 2014.
In keeping with the festival's commitment to presenting a broad selection of films from around the world, the 37th edition of the event will showcase 160 feature films (including 100 world premieres) and 190 short films split between various sections, including the Official Competition.
Judged by a jury led by the Italian actor Sergio Castellitto, two French films are competing in the Official Competition: The Statesman, the second feature by Pierre Courrège after La Cible, along with Now or Never, also the second feature by Serge Frydman (screenwriter for Patrice Leconte among others, and director of Mon Ange starring Vanessa Paradis). One Franco-Belgian co-production completes the French selection: Melody by Bernard Bellefroid (director of the acclaimed Régate four years ago).
The festival's opening film will beSalaud, on t'aime by Claude Lelouch, who will be in attendance, while Hippolyte Girardot will present Life of Riley as closing film in a posthumous tribute to director Alain Resnais.
