The 49th edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma de Montréal (FNC), which will take place online from October 7 through 31, will bring together thirty-five French short films! Five are in International Competition, nineteen in the P'tits Loups section, while French works take prime position in the VR strand.
For the eleventh consecutive year, the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma de Montréal continues its exploration of new technological trends with the FNC eXPlore strand.
All the immersive works can be seen on HTC Vive's Viveport platform.
Virtual reality works are therefore in the spotlight for this online edition: 19 films in total, including 8 of French nationality, grouped under the FNC eXPlore banner. All titles will be eligible for two awards. The first Prix Horizon will be awarded to the most innovative work in 6doF format. The Prix Panorama VR will be awarded to the best 360-degree work. Two French titles, Meet Mortaza and Recoding Entropia, are competing for this prize. Both prizes each have a value of $1000.
Meanwhile, four French works have been programmed in the Les Nouveaux Alchimistes strand, which presents more experimental works hovering between classical short films and immersive works.
