Synopsis
Through the most unknown work of one of the most popular writers in the world, “Dumas, des mets et des mots” tells the writer’s life from a new perspective. From the Picardy forests to Roscoff via the Caucasus mountains, the documentary offers a journey in the footsteps of a singular artist imbued with an insatiable appetite. At the heart of this exploration, a large banquet is organized in Dumas’ childhood home, where a chef reinterprets the specialties from his “Grand Dictionnaire de Cuisine” published three years after his death. Going back through his Kitchen Dictionary is to lift the veil on a complex personality marked by a turbulent family history, a thirst for social revenge and a fury for life which marked an abundant 19th century. Between success and disillusionment, how did this slave’s grandson rise to the top of world literature ?
