The Scent of Rio
Synopsis
The Scent of Rio tells the story of a family shaped by the migration waves of the early 20th century between Japan and Brazil. Jorge and Jun, father and son, have been estranged for years. Jorge lives in Japan, while Jun resides in Brazil. One day, Jorge writes a letter to his son a letter that goes unanswered. Later, Jorge suffers a stroke that leaves him in a deeply altered state of consciousness. Jun then flies to Tokyo to finally respond to his father’s letter and to help him die.

Sixteen-year-old Diane exists exclusively through her mother's gaze. But this intensely close bond between Diane and her mother, Sophie, is becoming increasingly problematic for the teenager.
