Golden Door
Synopsis
At the beginning of the 20th century.
In a remote area of the Sicilian countryside, a peasant family lives, working the same plot of land for generations. They lead an existence in harmony with nature and coexist with the spirits of their dead. The monotony of daily life is interrupted by tales of the New World, its inhabitants, and the immense wealth of this Eden.
Salvatore decides to sell all his possessions: his land, house, and cattle, to leave with his children and his elderly mother to seek out a better life on the other side of the ocean. But to become a citizen of this New World, one must die and be reborn again just a little. One must give up the secular traditions and the old beliefs of one’s land. One must be fit of mind and body and know how to obey and swear one’s loyalty if one wants to step through the “Golden Door.”
