Over the past 25 years, from the military dictatorship until now, Argentina has undergone the most brutal economic and social collapse that a country can experience during peacetime. This rich country and its population have experienced, body and soul, the full force of the disasters denounced by anti-globalization activists: unabashed ultra-liberalism, plundering of state property, explosion of foreign debt, massive political/financial corruption. All of this with the help and complicity of Western multinationals and condoned by international institutions.
Personified by men such as Carlos Menem, this scorched earth policy has resulted in veritable social genocide, an unprecedented cataclysm involving famine, sickness and sacrificed lives.
“Saccage” dissects one by one the mechanisms that have led to this disaster. The film is dedicated to all those who resist with dignity and courage. The paths of misery are even more unacceptable when they’re foreseeable and they occur in a land rich with abundant resources.
