In spring 2023, French animation was well represented at various animation festivals, with 39 French animation films selected for Animafest Zagreb and 26 for Kaboom.
Kaboom Animation Festival
With a selection of 26 French works, some of which won awards, it's fair to say that the Dutch Kaboom Animation Festival favored French animation in March.
In all, 21 shorts, three features, a series and a virtual reality work were presented in Amsterdam.
Several French films were acclaimed by the public and the jury:
- Best Student Short: Goodbye Jerome! by Adam Sillard, Gabrielle Selnet, and Chloé Farr
- Best Short: Skinned by Joachim Hérissé
- Audience Award for Best Feature: Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman by Pierre Földes
- Audience Award for Best Short: Freedom Swimmer by Olivia Martin-Mcguire
Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (Trickfilm)
With 40 French works presented, we can say that French animation was in the spotlight at the latest edition of the Stuttgart International Animation Film Festival (Trickfilm), which took place from April 25 to 30, 2023. At the end of the event, four French films were honored:
- Tricks for Kids Audience Award: Immobile Stars by Noémi Gruner and Séléna Picque
- Best Student Film: Human Resources by Trinidad Plass Caussade, Isaac Wenzek, and Titouan Tillier.
- Best Animated Feature: Nayola by José Miguel Ribeiro
- Fantasy Film Award: The Silent Scream by Martin Laurent, Lucas Foutrier, Julie Vandenbergue, Élisa Torris, Camille Leroy, and Camille Anne.
Animafest Zagreb
This year's Animafest Zagreb international festival welcomed a large number of French animated films. From June 5 to 10, 2023, a total of 39 French films were presented to Croatian audiences.
Among them, Unicorn Wars by Alberto Vázquez and Ice Merchants directed by João Gonzalez respectively received the Feature Film Audience Award and the Short Film Audience Award.
The jury selected two French films this year:
- Zlatko Grgic Award: A Kind of Testament by Stephen Vuillemin
- Golden Zagreb Award: Scale by Joseph Pierce.
Also noteworthy: the presence of a classic film by Georges Méliès, A Trip to the Moon
Fantasia International Film Festival
The Quebec festival, which kicked off on July 20, put the spotlight on French short films. A total of ten French shorts were presented:

- Harvey by Janice Nadeau
- Pebble Hill by Marjolaine Perreten
- PLSTC by Laen Sanches
- When I Was Scared of the Dark by Célia Tisserant and Arnaud Demuynck

- Boom by Romain Augier, Charles Di Cicco, Gabriel Augerai, Yannick Jacquin, Laurie Pereira de Figueiredo
- A Kind of Testament by Stephen Vuillemin
- Birth of the Oases by Marion Jamault
- Nezumikozo Jirokichi by Rintaro
Ottawa International Animation Festival
The next edition of the Canadian festival will feature a French animation series Boys Boys Boys, directed by Valentine Vendroux.
The festival will also give pride of place to French short-film production, with a selection of eleven films. :
