For the second year running, Unifrance and the Alpe d'Huez Film Festival have teamed up to present the UniFrance Comedy Award, which honors the French comedy that has garnered the highest number of admissions abroad in the previous year.
After Two is a Family in 2018, this year's winner is C'est la vie! by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, a film that attracted over 2 million moviegoers outside France in 2018.
Comedies are historically one of the most popular genres of French films internationally, accounting for one third of French film admissions abroad between 1994 and 2014. Welcome to the Land of Ch'tis, The Bélier Family, The Intouchables, and Serial (Bad) Weddings are just a few examples of French comedies that have proven that humor can transcend national borders.
To pay tribute to these comedies which provide an important showcase for French cinema abroad, UniFrance is delighted to have joined forces, since 2018, with the Alpe d'Huez Film Festival to present the UniFrance Comedy Award. The 2019 Award was given out on January 15 to Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano for their film C'est la vie! (produced by Quad, Ten Cinéma, and Gaumont, and sold internationally by Gaumont in 59 markets) at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Alpe d’Huez Film Festival, an international comedy film festival in the department of Isère in the French Alps, held from January 15 through 20, 2019.
