For the 32nd MyFrenchShort, Unifrance would like to highlight a collective school project, with the fantastic animated short The Odyssey of Abou Sangaré. This film was conceived and produced by the CM2 class at the Robert-Desnos school in Angers, as a tribute to Abou Sangare, the unforgettable actor in Boris Lojkine's The Story of Souleymane, from his departure from Guinea in 2017 to his César for Best Actor in 2025.
Entirely imagined and produced by the young students as part of the Classe Image program – a national initiative to promote cinema education in priority schools – the film traces Abou Sangare's journey with creativity and attention to detail, using the stop-motion technique.
Guided by filmmaker Simon Astié and sound engineer Gwenn Labarta, the students wrote, illustrated, and shot the film themselves.
The Odyssey of Abou Sangaré was screened at the 16th Premiers Petits Plans festival in Angers, which honors young people and cinematic storytelling.
