From Here to the Apple Tree
Synopsis
Like almost all young men of his generation, my grandfather was conscripted by the French state to fight in the Algerian War. Half a century earlier, his own grandfather had been sent to die in World War I. Today, other wars—which I have escaped—are raging or threatening from all sides. Colonization, environmental catastrophes, racism, wars… what can we do in such a damaged world? What care can be given to the earth of the present? How to live with the wounds of the past? Can cinema repair certain things? These are the questions I relentlessly try to explore by intertwining my family history with History, through gestures however small they may be, equipped with my hoe and my camera, on my very small scale within a vast devastated landscape where so much still remains to be saved. Perhaps all is not lost yet? Maybe the snake will come back?
