Between January and June 2024, nearly 700 French productions were released across all five continents. Of these, 53 were animated films, representing 7.7% of the total. Over the same period, they generated 3.6 million admissions, corresponding to 18.8% of the total audience for French cinema abroad.
French animation continues to play a key role in promoting French cinema on foreign screens in 2024! Since the beginning of the year, it has included one of the four million-admissions titles and four others attracting over 100,000 moviegoers, all of which are listed in the top 5 below. The range of French films, which has expanded over the last few years, is finding its audience outside France.

*Minority-French production
The minority-French film Robot Dreams caused a sensation by attracting 823,000 Mexicans (Canibal, €3.03 million), and has been on release in the country since March 7! The film was then exported to China, where it attracted 274,000 young and old (China Film, €1.42 million in box office revenues), just one week after opening in the USA & English-speaking Canada under the Neon banner (around 62,000 admissions and $0.65 million). 1.54 million foreign viewers saw Robot Dreams on the big screen (€7.35 million).
Two other minority-French productions stood out in the first half of 2024. On the one hand, newcomer Panda Bear in Africa, chosen by 386,000 Russians (Volga, €1.10 million) and 84,000 Vietnamese (CGV, €0.25 million). On the other hand, The Inseparables, which continued its international tour, attracting 39,000 Portuguese (Nos, €0.22 million) and 38,000 Danes (Scanbox, €0.47 million). Since its launch in early December 2023, the film has sold 661,000 tickets abroad (€4.16 million).
Completing this report, two French ambassadors continued to shine in foreign markets: The Jungle Bunch: World Tour attracted 266,000 Poles (Kino Swiat, €1.20 million) and 126,000 Germans (Splendid, €0.95 million), while Ladybug & Cat Noir Awakening attracted 52,000 Romanians (Ro-Image 2000, €0.24 million) and was a crowd-pleaser in Slovenia with 47,000 admissions (Karatanija, €0.32 million). The Jungle Bunch: World Tour sold 1.44 million tickets internationally (€8.54 million), while Ladybug & Cat Noir racked up 7.52 million (€33.9 million).
