UniFrance and the Alpe d'Huez Film Festival have joined forces to create the UniFrance Comedy Award, which will be given each year to the French comedy that has garnered the highest number of admissions abroad. The first recipient is the comedy by Hugo Gélin, Two is a Family, which topped 5 million admissions around the world in 2017.
Comedies are historically one of the French film genres that are most popular internationally, making up a third of French film admissions abroad between 1994 and 2014. Welcome to the Land of Ch'tis, The Bélier Family, The Intouchables, Serial (Bad) Weddings… Just a few examples of French films that prove that humor can sometimes cross over borders.
To pay tribute to these comedies which provide a great showcase for French cinema abroad, UniFrance is delighted to join with the Alpe d'Huez Film Festival in creating the UniFrance Comedy Award. The first award was given to Hugo Gélin for Two is a Family (produced by Mars Films and Vendôme Production, and sold internationally by SND in 48 territories) during the 21st edition of Alpe d'Huez Film Festival, which took place place from January 16 through 21, 2018.
