South Korea's second largest film festival (after Busan), the Jeonju International Film Festival celebrates its 17th anniversary this year from April 28 through May 7. Around thirty French productions will be showcased at the event, which includes a special tribute to the French filmmaker Philippe Grandrieux.
An event that combines a major film festival and an important meeting place for movie professionals with the Jeonju Cinema Project (at which France will be represented by Claire Denis, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, and Jean-Marie Straub), this year's Jeonju International Film Festival will present a rich selection of French productions. The festival also coincides with the 2016 Korea-France Year of Bilateral Cultural Exchange.
The delegation of French artists expected at the event includes Gaspar Noé, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Yves Montmayeur, Roxane Mesquida, and Philippe Grandrieux, who is the subject of a special retrospective event featuring eight of the director's films, including Sombre, A New Life, and White Epilepsy.
