Healing everything naturally and without medication through the subtle power of our energies — that is the promise of geobiology. Through personal development workshops or videos posted on their social media, some geobiologists attract a wide audience with enticing promises: their expertise in energy balancing is said to allow them to cure everything, from depression to cancer. It’s simple — we might as well throw away our trusty health insurance cards, now useless in the face of the mysterious powers of their hands. Does that sound excessive to you? In France, as in the rest of Europe, the health crisis has led to a growing distrust of traditional medicine and science in general. Public interest in natural remedies has fueled the rise of this practice, whose foundations lie in the body's self-healing power and the influence of the mind over the body. So much so that the Interministerial Mission for Vigilance and Combat against Sectarian Abuses — a public agency tasked with coordinating the fight against cult-like influences — has noted a significant increase in health-related reports since the Covid-19 pandemic. It has also observed that some geobiologists have accumulated dozens of potentially concerning reports. Yet this hasn’t stopped some of them from going mainstream, even offering training courses to job seekers directly through the France Travail training catalog — the French public agency responsible for supporting job seekers. Moreover, the case of geobiology is far from unique. The France Travail catalog is full of training programs in pseudo-sciences. According to our calculations, nearly 3,000 training courses in the health field involve therapies that lack any scientific basis. And yet, certain professions like naturopathy are neither regulated nor properly supervised, which opens the door to potential abuses — including the risk of practicing medicine illegally.
