Synopsis
Des figues en avril sketches the amusing and moving portrait of Messaouda Dendoune, filmed by her son Nadir. The eighty-two-year-old's appealing, mischievious, determined, and impassioned personality is revealed as we encounter her in her two-room apartment in Île Saint-Denis, her everyday life punctuated by the invisible presence of an absent other. She has learned to live alone after her husband, Mohand, suffering from Alzheimer's, was put in a nursing home. Messaouda, lulled by the emblematic Kabyle singers she loves, such as Slimane Azem, proudly tells the tale of her France of working-class neighborhoods and her children's future.
