Six academics, members of the Astronomers' Club, undertake an expedition that will take them to the Moon. They leave Earth in a rocket fired from a giant cannon. When they arrive on the Moon, they discover earthshine and the Selenites. The six escape from the Selenites' king and return to Earth. They land in the sea and, fished out of the water by a passing ship, are given a triumphant welcome. This is the synopsis of Georges Méliès' A Trip to the Moon, the first science fiction film ever made. The documentary The Extraordinary Journey by Serge Bromberg and Eric Lange, tells the story of this incredible adventure across the 20th and 21st centuries and of the challenges posed by one of the most complex film restorations in cinema history.
