Synopsis
Cécile and Julien have just moved in together. They’re in love. One evening, coming home from work, Julien encounters an enigmatic young woman. Barefoot and in a state of shock, she doesn’t know where she is.
Julien follows her, risking everything to discover her secret. But there’s another man on the scene, Louis. Julien lets himself get caught up in their story, one that will eventually lead to crime.

Only the Night by Xavier Giannoli (Une Aventure, France, 2005, 100 min.). This hypnotic second film from Xavier Giannoli (Eager Bodies) features Nicolas Duvauchelle (L'Enfer, À tout de suite, and Beau Travail) as Julien, a man who lives with his girlfriend, but comes home late from work one night to encounter Gabrielle, a young, beautiful, seemingly lost, woman (Ludivine Sagnier, Swimming Pool) in front of his building. She mumbles something to him, like a call for help, and then vanishes. Julien becomes obsessed with the mystery surrounding Gabrielle. He discovers that she lives across the street with an intimidating, violent-looking man. Following her at night, Julien sees Gabrielle sleepwalking, perhaps a refugee from the distressing world she doubtlessly inhabits. Risking everything, including his girlfriend’s love, Julien plunges into Gabrielle’s strange but fascinating life, determined to save her from whatever it is she’s trying to escape.
