It’s dawn. A dilapidated chateau stands in a sprawling park full of hundred-year-old oaks. Jean-René, a bankrupt aristocrat in his sixties, has recently been informed that he’ll soon die. Days and nights go by. In the large hall lit by candles, the aristocrat and his gardener get drunk. Some time later, Jean-René declares that he’s going to invite a theater troupe to the chateau, with the aim of brightening up his last days with a play inspired by the myth of Dionysus.
