Synopsis
Wahid Haydar and his daughter Soufiya return to Tunis after a long absence in West Africa. Soufiya is deeply imbued with her African heritage, much to her father’s displeasure who wants her to become a “local”. But the country has greatly changed during their absence and Wahid quickly comes up against racketeering and cheating, while Soufiya, feeling trapped, demands to see her French mother. It has been ten years since they last saw each other. They’ve been separated ever since her mother tried to kidnap her. Soufiya then engages in the difficult battle of reuniting her parents and of imposing her “difference” in Tunisian society, a society that has a long way to go in ridding itself of archaic prejudices about black Africans and other “foreigners”…
