Synopsis
The 1970's, Autumn, high in the mountains on the Southern Bulgarian border. A military bus is bumping along a road, carrying new soldiers. They arrive at a small military border post in a former monastery. The border post has its own laws which are similar to those of the outside world, except that they are pushed to the point of the absurd and the grotesquely sinister. Each of the boys arrived with their own personalities. Oafish and funny at the start, their characters and reactions will be tarnished by the series of frustations imposed on them by a mad lieutenant, by the fake relationships concealing crimes and by the absurdity of the system they are protecting. Violence will become the daily feature of life in this small border post.

About
"I'm very happy to be the first independent producer in Bulgaria, after the long period of state control that Bulgarian production has gone through. I'm happy to be able to work with French coproducers because French cinema has taught me a lot ever since I was a young man. I'm delighted that various people and organizations have helped forge cultural relations between France and Bulgaria, just as our respective national offices for cinema have done (...) This film is called "Granitza", which means border, because it's currently the most topical word in the world, because on top of the borders of the former USSR, those of Yugoslavia and the Arab countries, there are borders in people's minds that have to disappear. I thank all those who read this."
(Plamen Maslarov - Producer)
