Synopsis
Sienna, at the beginning of the century, is a blend of medieval might and poverty. Pietro, thirteen, retruns to his father's magnificent country estate and is reunited with Ghisola, the caretakers' daughters. Their childhood friendship turns into love. They are found out after their first night together. Ghisola is sent away. Five years later, Pietro meets Ghisola by chance in Sienna. But Ghisola the woman is no longer quite the same. She isn't the pure and innocent creature that Pietro wants to think she is and he cannot imagine her in any other way.

About
"With Closed Eyes" is a novel that was destined for me (...). And yet as soon as I decided to adapt Federigo Tozzi's work, I had to tackle an insuperable problem. Tozzi writes in a sublime style that cannot be translate into another language. So I did something very unusual : I took a plot-line, that I followed quite faithfully, and the characters but I left aside the vision of the world that the novel gave as well as its expressive transposition. Did I have the right to do this ? In general, filmmakers do the opposite : alter the plot of the novel they are adapting so as not to betray its spirit. For me, it was necessary to enter into the author's vision, to understand it in order to provide a personal eading of it. I could never have followed to a vision that I do not share completely."
