Synopsis
Albert Shweitzer was born on January 14, 1875, in Kayserberg, Alsace, a German territory at the time, and die on September 4, 1965, in Lambaréné, Gabon, a former French colony that had gained its independence five years earlier. Bassek Ba Kobhio has always been fascinated by this character caught between two continents and who founded, for better or for worse, what we now call "relief work". This film shows us Schweitzer through African eyes.

About
"The white man imposed his civilisation on the black man and both are fully aware of the fact. But the white man would like the black man to remember this with a certain amount of gratitude, whereas the black man would like the white man to have feelings of guilt for the misdeeds of his civilisation. (...) The black man's mistrust also comes from the fact that the white man always appears to him as a conqueror, a seducer or a usurper. His sense of profit inspires wariness even if he seems to act for humanitarian and benevolent reasons. (...) He wants to erase the image of the filthy, primitive Negro savage from the white man's mind for good. His concern is to give the world another view of himself that suits his true personality. He must take his revenge for this. And it's this desire of revenge, rather than any actual vengeance, that makes his relationship with white men so tense. (...)"
