Event presentation

The Bienne French Film Festival (Festival du Film Français d'Helvétie - FFFH) is now in its 13th edition, with this year's event to be held from September 13 through 17, 2017.

Over 50 French and French-language productions will be showcased over the five-day event, including a large number of preview screenings. Films will be screened in their original versions with subtitles, with the majority subtitled into German.

The films in this year's lineup are divided into four sections: French films and French-language films with distribution in Switzerland (the FFFH section); French productions and co-productions shot in languages other than French, screened in their original versions (Horizon Section); Swiss productions and co-productions (Clin d'Oeil section); and films that do not have distribution deals in Switzerland (Discovery Section). The program includes dramas, documentaries, and animated films.

Short films will be presented in a competition section as part of the Discovery program, and includes only fiction productions.

Every day, festival guests and members of the public will take part in informal meetings and round-table discussions, which will be simultaneously translated into German, since almost one half of audiences are German-speakers. Directors and actors particularly enjoy these moments of exchange with bilingual audiences, and are keen to observe the audience's reaction to the subtitled versions of their films.
